SMC-2 ~4x Magnification

The SMC-2 is an M67 Super Macro Converter, providing up to 4x magnification when paired with a full-frame camera and a 100mm or 105mm macro lens. It is designed to address the challenges of underwater macro photography directly, treating the camera, lens, port, and water as a single optical system. This approach maintains image quality and contrast where standard close-up dioptres designed for air use would falter.

This optic uses low dispersion optical glass, precision-ground and treated with multi-layer broad-band anti-reflective coatings. These measures reduce common optical issues such as chromatic aberrations and field deformation, which can appear with traditional magnifying lenses underwater. The Water Contact Optics are assembled in an anodised aluminium alloy housing, nitrogen-purged to eliminate internal fogging. It mounts onto any M67 thread port.

Optimized for underwater imaging

The SMC-2 is optimized for autofocus systems underwater, with a working distance of approximately 20mm to 40mm in front of the lens. This optical design allows for shooting at larger apertures while retaining image quality, which helps avoid diffraction limits on high-resolution sensors and enables selective focus with narrow depth of field in super macro images.
